Put your goal on paper
Every New Year’s resolution or goal should be written down. Break it down into simple daily or weekly action steps. My favorite saying is that you can eat an entire elephant if you do it one spoon full at a time. However, you have to start somewhere.
Start with small daily/weekly steps. You have to crawl before you can walk and you have to walk before you are able to run.
For instance, let’s say you set a goal of running in the Indy mini marathon in 2015 but you really don’t like exercising. It is January the 10th and the Mini Marathon is on May the 2nd. That is a 4 month goal and when broken down into days it is about 112 days away.
To get started you have to get walking first and build it into a jog. After a while you can gradually build that into a running pace for a short distance. As you build your stamina to the short runs you start building into longer stretches of 5, 10, and 15 miles.
The key is to write your goals onto a calendar so they will also have a time frame. After your scheduled activity has been completed write down your achievement. You will have ups and downs but when you write it down and document it you will see that you have made improvements.
