Are you ready for a disaster?

We all seen the news and looked at the pictures of storms that hit in various areas of the country.

All of the thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families who are affected and please donate your time or money to help the once who are affected. In many cases it might take months even years to get everything back on track.

Have you ever thought of what your personal or family game plan will be in a disaster?

A disaster can not only be a weather related item. Think off computer failure, medical, electrical fire, arson, death without a will…… just to name a few.

I am not sure if you’re like some of us…..not prepared and most likely not ready for a major event like a tornado, hurricane, electrical outage, computer failure….. Personally I thought I was prepared and ready for a major event and now when I look around my house and office, and truly think about it, I am not.

There are bits and pieces missing and should be taken care of soon or hopefully before a disaster hit.

Let’s use this as a reminder not only to help the once who truly do need our help during their time in need but also look around and truly check if you are ready for a disaster yourself.

Spring cleaning not for the inside

Getting the exterior of the home ready for the rest of the season is as important as the interior cleaning.

Heating and Air conditioning:

When you had not had your air conditioner checked and serviced in a while, now is the time to call the Heating and Air condition company. Now they have time, as soon the first day of hot and humid days hit, they will be busy.

You also should look at your furnace filter and if needed replace it.

Roof and Gutter

Just take a minute to cleanout the gutter and downspouts and the reaming leave that might hang around on the roof. Nothing worsts them a Spring or Summer rain and your gutters are not draining.

While you are looking at the gutters, you might also look for loose areas that need re

Exterior siding

Now is also time to think of possible cleaning the exteriors vinyl siding. Especially on the North side of the home, you can find that the siding is getting dirtier then the rest of the house.

You can get in many home stores siding cleaner you can use with a long handled brush and a water house.

Wooden Decks

Wooden decks do take a beading over the winter. When there are located close to trees the leave will discolor the deck flooring. Clean off the leaves and other debris that has collected on the deck over the winter. You can find very nice deck cleaners at your local Hardware Store. Just follow the products instructions.

Now would be also a great time to re-seal or re-stain the deck.

Drive ways and walk ways

Take a quick peek at your drive way and the walk way the goes to your home. See if there are any cracks or possible areas where someone can trip and fall.

When you have drive way cracks, you can get a sealer that is specific for your type of drive. When you have gravel, just get the rake out one warm weekend and start even out the gravel, or have new gravel delivered.

There are many other things you can do. This is just to get you started….

….happy cleaning and be safe.

Getting to the goal is a Team Sport

With the Super Bowl being in town, I am looking with ahhh on what the Super Bowl planning committee has pulled off. This shows as a reminder what all had to be accomplished to first get the Super Bowl here and to have as of a smooth of an event as possible.

It took an entire team to accomplish this tremendous task and it took an entire team to see it through to the end and it will take an entire team to clean up at the end.

All of them came together, hashed out a plan, put the plan in writing and worked the plan and if needed adjusted the plan.

What can we learn from this huge event?

  • Set a goal; no matter how small or large.
  • Reach out to others for advice and help to get you to the goal
  • Put an action plan into place for the goal
  • Put the action plan in writing
  • adjust if needed
  • Execute the plan and
  • Adjust if needed
