We all have heard the news about the Detroit Michigan resident James Robertson who walks to and from his job every day. When you have not heard the story, here is a link to a Business Insider article about James Robertson.
His car broke down years ago and he did not have the money to fix it. Ever since then he made the 21 mile trip to and from work on foot while keeping perfect attendance at this job.
21 miles one way. Letās put this in perspective.
This guys is walking a marathon every day! He makes it to work on time, does his job, and gets back home. He makes it to work very early in the morning and does the same thing the next day all over again. He has been doing this now for several years.
He walks a marathon every day and many of us are winning and complaining when we cannot find a parking spot close to the front door. We have to walk 20 more feet to get to the store entrance and some of us say they are too tired to take a 20 minute walk around the block.
His car broke down several years ago. He could just have called into work and told them he will not be able to make it like many people would do. But no, he decided that it was important enough to him to make certain he arrived at work on time.
Detroitās weather is not the friendliest, and with each rain, snowstorm, or heatwave, he just could have called in āsickā but he did not. He was dedicated enough to make certain that he makes it to work on time.
What lessons can we learn from Mr. James Robertson?
Never give up
No matter what life throws at you, get up, dust yourself off, and keep on moving.
Set a goal
Have a goal and keep on moving towards it. Live is already hard and comes with ups and downs and we have to have a reason to move forward.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself
When you think you have it hard, there always will be someone who does have it harder or is worst off.
