When you are in a rented home or apartment in the winter time, and you are craving the lush colors of the warmer weather season, you can still bring the outdoors into your home.

Using different style and types of containers can help you accomplish this. You can use pretty much anything from an old pot, an old basket, or many other types of containers. When you prefer not to deal with dirt, there is also the option of water gardening which is called hydroponics.

Personally, I like hydroponics gardening. I tend to over water, or forget to water, my potted plants and after a few months they just die. With hydroponics I fill up the water container they are in, give them plant food, and leave them alone for as long as a month depending on how warm I keep my house.

To find out what plants are suitable for indoors, you need to do a little homework and make sure that you choose the right plants. This will help make sure your container garden will flourish. Not every plant is suitable for indoors or a container.

One place to seek advice is your local garden center. I don’t have anything against big box hardware stores, but many times they do not have a true plant expert on hand over the winter. It is best to go to your smaller local garden center to ask for plant advice.

Many of us are on the internet 24/7 which is a great place to ask for advice. You even can order your plants many times directly from the grower.

When you don’t want to deal with growing anything because you have a brown thumb consider picking up a small bundle of flowers every week when you grocery shop and bring a little taste of spring home with you each week.

Keep in mind, just because you are in a rented house or apartment does not mean you should put your personal green thumb in retirement.
